Who Is The Repose C-Air Riser Recliner Chair Suitable For?

The Repose C-Air Riser Recliner Chair is designed to support a wide range of clinical and mobility requirements.

It is particularly beneficial for:

  • Frail elderly users
  • People living with Osteoarthritis
  • People living with Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Users with changing neurological conditions
  • Individuals requiring advanced pressure management
  • Users with postural support requirements

Because the chair offers multiple positioning options, it can help improve comfort, reduce pressure build-up and support independence throughout the day.

Repose C-Air Riser Recliner Chair Size Guide

The Repose C-Air Riser Recliner Chair is available in Small, Medium and Large sizes. Each size can then be tailored further to suit individual requirements.

Weight capacities are shown in stone. All other measurements are shown in inches.

To ensure the chair is the correct fit, please read our riser recliner measuring guide.

Size Weight Capacity Seat Height Seat Width Seat Depth Back Height Arm Height
Small 20 Stone 16″ 18″ – 22″ 18″ – 20″ 28″ 7″
Medium 20 Stone 18″ 18″ – 22″ 18″ – 20″ 28″ 7″
Large 20 Stone 20″ 18″ – 22″ 18″ – 20″ 28″ 7″

The adjustable dimensions allow healthcare professionals and carers to achieve a much more precise seating position for improved comfort and support.

Made To Measure Healthcare Seating

One of the biggest advantages of the Repose C-Air Riser Recliner Chair is its made-to-measure design.

Rather than relying on fixed sizing alone, the chair can be configured around the user’s exact requirements.

Healthcare professionals can specify:

  • Seat width
  • Seat height
  • Seat depth
  • Back height
  • Arm height

This flexibility helps improve posture, pressure management and long-term seating comfort.

Mechanism Options

The Repose C-Air Riser Recliner Chair is available with several mechanism options to suit different clinical requirements.

You can learn more about each option in our riser recliner mechanism guide.

Single Tilt in Space (STIS)

The Single Tilt in Space mechanism keeps the seat-to-back angle constant while tilting the entire seating system backwards. This helps reduce shear and friction while improving pressure redistribution.

Dual Tilt in Space (DTIS)

The Dual Tilt in Space mechanism adds independent backrest recline and independent leg rest movement. Consequently, users benefit from a wider range of positioning options for comfort, posture and pressure management.

Standard Dual Motor

The Standard Dual Motor mechanism provides independent backrest recline and leg rest movement without Tilt in Space functionality.

Optional VAL Technology

VAL Technology is available on selected Tilt in Space mechanisms and allows the rise angle to be adjusted between 10°, 20° and 30° to better support standing transfers.

Pressure Management & Postural Care

The Repose C-Air Riser Recliner Chair is often prescribed as part of a 24-hour postural care programme.

Its positioning options allow users to be repositioned throughout the day, helping reduce prolonged pressure on vulnerable areas.

In addition, the chair can support people with oedema, fluid retention, swallowing difficulties and postural hypotension.

Regular repositioning can improve comfort while helping users remain engaged in everyday activities.

Pressure Management Back Cushions

The chair comes with a fixed waterfall back as standard. However, removable back cushion options are also available.

Users can choose from seven interchangeable pressure management back cushions designed to adapt to changing needs.

Each cushion can be repositioned for improved comfort and support. Fibre-filled cushions can also be adjusted by adding or removing fibre to alter firmness.

All covers are removable for cleaning and replacement.

Pressure Management Seat Cushions

The Repose C-Air Riser Recliner Chair also offers a choice of nine interchangeable pressure management seat cushions.

An Easiform seat cushion comes fitted as standard. However, upgraded pressure care cushions are available for users who require enhanced pressure redistribution.

Because every user has different requirements, the seating system can be adapted over time without replacing the entire chair.

All cushions and covers are removable for easier cleaning and maintenance.

Chaise Cover Design

The chair benefits from a full-length chaise seat and leg rest cover.

This design helps reduce pinch points, shear and friction during recline movement. As a result, the risk of pressure area development is reduced.

The integrated memory foam insert also provides exceptional comfort during long periods of sitting.

Hoist Compatibility & Safe Transfers

The Repose C-Air Riser Recliner Chair is compatible with both mobile and overhead hoists.

This helps support safer moving and handling procedures for carers while reducing physical strain during transfers.

The rise function also assists users into a standing position more comfortably and safely.

Practical Everyday Features

Several practical features come fitted as standard to improve day-to-day usability.

  • Durable castors
  • Handset loop
  • Side storage pocket
  • Optional pocket positioning
  • Optional heavy-duty lockable castors
  • Optional glides

These features help make the chair suitable for both healthcare professionals and home users.

Seat Cushions

Once you’ve chosen your chair size, mechanism and fabrics, the various seat cushions available with the C-Air will then be displayed. Please note there is an additional charge for the seat cushion.

There is a choice of nine seat cushions each with different pressure management features. They can be removed and interchanged with one of the other seat cushion options. You can purchase one or more cushions to support the different needs of individuals who may use this chair. Cushions and covers are removable for cleaning and replacement.

With all pressure management seat cushions, we recommend a fabric with four way stretch properties to aid the reduction of shear and friction.

Viscoform

For those who have good posture and mobility but are seated for greater than one hour at a time and require pressure relief and supported comfort. This cushion has a high-density foam base which offers a supportive and firm seat base with a top layer of memory foam to allow immersion into the cushion, giving stability and a large surface area to reduce pressure levels.

Easiform

For standard seating, our softest foam cushion with high quality Reflex foam filler for gentle comfort.

Profile Viscoform

The profile version of the Viscoform cushion provides a pommel, which can support those with weak trunk or lower limb muscles who are prone to sliding down and forward in their chair or for those with lower limbspasticity to help maintain hips in the abducted position to create a good seating position.

Liquiform

For those who have good posture and mobility but sit for long periods of time and require pressure relief and supported comfort. Recommended for people with limited muscle bulk or at risk of excessive weight loss. This cushion has a high-density foam which offers a supportive and firm seat base. The foam is topped with a fluid liquid gel in a soft silicone cover which provides a high level of pressure relief. The liquid gel helps to dissipate heat and constantly adapts to the user’s movement.

Celliform

For those sitting for long periods with specific comfort issues such as a high risk of pressure sores. Gelacell has a unique cell matrix that distributes pressure across the contact area, as it contours and yields in response to weight redistribution. Gelacell absorbs body heat, reducing the risk of creating an environment that could increase pressure risks, the grid design also encourages air circulation. Gelacell is clinically tested and passes all dermatological tests for skin contact.

Maximum weight of user 127 kg (20 stone)

Coolform

For those sitting for long periods with specific comfort issues such as a high risk of pressure sores. This cushion uses the latest medical grade silicone gel technology allowing pressure to be evenly distributed. The gel conforms to the shape of the body and equalises to body temperature. The gel cells allow air to flow easily and Coolform is totally odourless and hypoallergenic.

Profile Coolform

The profile version of the Coolform cushion provides a pommel, which can support those with weak trunk or lower limb muscles who are prone to sliding down and forward in their chair or for those with lower limbspasticity to help maintain hips in the abducted position to create a good seating position.

Airform

For those who currently have or who are at high risk of pressure sores. Users need to have good pelvic stability and core trunk strength to accommodate the air pressure changes. The Airform has three manual air cushions under a layer of memory foam. The cushion provides all the benefit of an air cushion without the sensation of alternating changes in air pressure.

Minimum weight of user 40 kg (6 stone 4lbs)
Maximum weight of user 127 kg (20 stone)

Dynaform

For those at very high risk of developing pressure sores or a history of sores where the highest priority is to prevent further pressure damage. The Dynaform cushion is a dynamic alternating air cushion, which constantly changes the air levels within its air cells to recreate the effect of normal body movements, which provides constant pressure redistribution to prevent pressure build up.

Minimum weight of user 40 kg (6 stone 4lbs)
Maximum weight of user 121 kg (19 stone)

Back Cushions

There is a choice of either a fixed waterfall back cushion or choose from seven interchangeable pressure management back cushions that enable the chair to be adapted to a single user’s changing needs or to adapt the chair to another user. This ensures greater longevity of its usage.

In addition, all interchangeable cushions can be repositioned to suit a user’s individual seating preferences and fibres added or removed from fibre filled cushions to adjust firmness. Covers can also be removed for cleaning or replacement.

Waterfall

Individual fibre filled waterfall cushions, each of which are fully adjustable to accommodate maximum postural support. The waterfall back can be useful for those with mild Kyphosis, Scoliosis and reduced muscle mass on their back.

Waterfall Lateral

The central cushion in this soft fibre filled waterfall back comes with in-built lateral supports which can provide some trunk support for those who have limited trunk control or balance, useful for those with early stages of neurological conditions such as MS or a Stroke survivor with limited residual impairments.

Large Profile Headrest With Waterfall

The profile headrest conforms to the head and shoulders which can be useful for individuals with limited neck control with the waterfall back providing soft adjustable lumbar support.

Comfort Lateral

Soft fibre filled back with lateral support, which can be useful for those who have limited trunk control or balance. It can be useful for those with early stages of neurological conditions such as MS or a Stroke survivor.

Large Profile Headrest With Support Lateral

Firm foam lateral back cushion with soft fibre filled profile headrest can provide support for those who have limited trunk control or balance. The profile headrest can provide support to keep the head in good midline alignment which can be useful for those with early stages of neurological conditions such as MS or a Stroke survivor with limited residual impairments.

Support Lateral

A foam filled back providing firmer lateral support with a soft fibre filled headrest. The firm lateral support maintains midline trunk alignment which can be useful for those post Stroke or early to mid-stages of neurological conditions.

Large Profile Headrest With Comfort Lateral

This back offers soft fibre filled cushions to provide head, shoulder and trunk support, which can be useful for older users who have lost some muscle control, supporting them in a good postural position with the head in a neutral position. This back can also be useful for early stages of neurological conditions to maintain good positioning without restricting activities.

Headrest Cushions

There is a choice of 5 detachable headrests all attached with a velcro tab.

Head Roll

The head roll is useful to reduce depth for anyone with reduced neck extension or needing to keep their head in a neutral position for tasks such as eating or drinking whilst maximising comfort and reducing effort.

Mechanisms Explained

The most important aspect to consider before purchasing any healthcare chair are the seating positions that are required to aid the conditions of the client and address any pressure and postural management needs.

The C-air is available with a Dual Tilt in Space (DTIS) or Single Tilt in Space (STIS) mechanism or a Standard Dual Motor Mechanism.  Each mechanism we offer is available in different sizes.

Single Tilt in Space/Dual Tilt in Space/Standard Dual Motor
DTIS and STIS Mechanisms (Common features)

The Tilt in Space movement features on both these mechanisms.  It allows the seat to back angle to remain the same whilst the whole seating system is tilted backwards.  This ensures that the angle of the hips, knees and ankles remain unaffected and the weight on the Ischial Tuberosities is reduced by redistributing the weight through the back. This constant angle also prevents shear and friction during movement.

This feature can also help when transferring someone in a sling as it can support better pelvic positioning by using gravity to position the user in the back of the chair in the optimal position.

Both these mechanisms have a rise position.  As the chair rises the seat tilts forward slightly, transferring the weight to the knees whilst taking away the pressure from your hips thus allowing you to walk away more easily from the chair.  The seat angle can be changed to provide further support by choosing the VAL Technology.

Dual Tilt in Space

Cair Dtis

Single Tilt in Space

Cair Stis

DTIS (Only)

As well as the Tilt in Space and Rise functions, described above, the Dual Tilt in Space mechanism also features an independent backrest recline and independent leg rest movement:

  • The independent recline allows the user to maintain flexibility over their body’s position, particularly the amount of hip flexion, enabling them to maximise comfort as well as managing health needs.
  • The independent leg rest offers the user additional flexibility over positioning, allowing them to either use it in conjunction with the recline feature to create the optimal posture for their body shape.

Standard Dual Motor

The Standard Dual Motor comes with an independent backrest recline and independent leg rest enables a whole range of movements and positions to aid posture and pressure management.  These movement features are described above in DTIS (only).  It also has a rise function for ease of standing, with optional VAL technology available all as described above.

Cair Standard Dual Motor

VAL Technology

An optional mechanism can be fitted under the chair that allows the rise angle to be set to support individuals to a standing position. Choose from three positions 10º, 20º or 30º. The higher the angle the lower the front of the chair becomes, providing more support when moving from a sitting to a standing position. A simple pin system allows you to set the angle required.

Safety Devices

Accupak Rechargeable Battery System

The Accupak power pack enables you to use the chair away from a power supply. The battery provides an average of up to 100 adjustment cycles and will need recharging regularly to retain the quality of usage. It can be charged by simply plugging it in. The system sits out of sight under the chair and the charging outlet is built into the side of the chair.

Please note that the Accupak is not compatible with the Reading Lamp.

Full user instructions can be found in the user manual – please read these carefully before using the chair and Accupak.

20 Cycle Back Up Unit

This back up system comes as stand-alone unit that can carry out up to 20 chair adjustments. It should only be used as an emergency back-up system.

Full user instructions can be found in your user manual – please read these carefully before using the chair and the 20 cycle back up.

Optional Accessories

The following features can be purchased to enhance the functionality of the chair.

Arm Rest Designs*

The C-air has a choice of three different arm rest styles as shown below. With the wide arm style there is the option to upgrade to a Memory foam or Coolform gel interior with a vapour permeable fabric.

Scroll

Scroll Arm

Wooden Knuckle

Wide Flat

Wide Flat Arm

Removable Arms*

A removable arm rest can be fitted to the right sitting side, left sitting side or both sides of the chair.

Seat Depth Adjustment

The C-air comes with the option to alter the seat depth with a choice of two sets of detachable adjuster pads, 25.4mm (1″) or 50.8mm (2″).

The seat depth should be long enough to support the upper part of the legs whilst allowing the back to rest comfortably on the backrest. If the seat is too long the user is likely to slouch in the chair to get their feet on the floor, which puts extra pressure on their lower spine, if too short it will cause additional pressure on the thighs risking potential skin breakdown.

Headrests

There are five headrests to choose from, all of which come with a Velcro tab allowing them to fit over the top cushions.  For further details on each of these options please refer to the Headrest Section.
