Venturing Outside...Your Comfort Zone

Venturing Outside… Your Comfort Zone

This last year has been incredibly tough for us all.

Human contact with those outside of your household has been forbidden. Even going outside at all has been banned for large parts, barring those essential journeys.

I don’t think we realised just how much we valued our freedoms until they were taken away.

Every part of our lives have been affected!

They say covid doesn’t discriminate and that is so true. It hasn’t left any stone unturned in its quest for disruption and destruction.

A light has been shone on the many deficiencies within our society but if we want to see meaningful, long term change, this light needs to stay switched on.

We shouldn’t accept being silenced or waved away with the excuse that there are more pressing matters to attend to anymore.

If you’re faced with a problem, the chances are, you aren’t alone. Speaking out encourages and gives confidence to others to do the same and suddenly, people start to listen. Your problems are just as valid and important as anyone else’s.

Don’t suffer in silence. The very act of sharing what’s wrong often feels like a weight has been lifted in itself. To actually verbalise whatever it is that’s causing you pain can make it easier for you to deal with.

Opening up to your friends, family, even strangers and realising you aren’t alone can make all the difference.

#TogetherStronger

We’ve seen what can happen when communities and the people within them unite. We are stronger together and together, we can make a real difference.

Loneliness and isolation of the elderly, the lack of support for people with physical disabilities, mental health challenges and many more issues besides have always been there, they’ve just been thrust into the spotlight and exacerbated by coronavirus.

I recently signed up to Age UK’s Telephone Befriender service to have a chat with an older person once a week. I’m really looking forward to getting to know my new friend and my first call is scheduled for next week!

It might not seem like much of a gesture but to that person, it might be the difference to them speaking to someone that day or not so if it brings a smile to their face, it will bring a smile to mine.

We’ve been actively encouraging conversations around the challenges faced by people with disabilities on social media recently and I’m pleased to say it’s been our most engaging topic of conversation since we set up our Facebook page.

A myth I think a lot of people believe is that one person can’t possibly make a difference. There are plenty of examples throughout history that have proved that theory incorrect but you can understand why people might believe it and in a way, I suppose it is partly true. A movement has to start somewhere though and if it hasn’t already begun, who says you can’t be the one to start it?

Adapting to Change

I don’t think we will truly appreciate the magnitude of the carnage caused by coronavirus for years to come. It’s been a nightmare that we just haven’t been able to wake up from and it will haunt us

for a while yet. For some, the heartache will be with them forever…

We’ve all had to adapt our ways of working and living. Our freedoms may have been restricted and life’s little luxuries taken away but we’re resilient and determined, dedicated and driven, more than we ever knew possible.

We’ve all probably found out way more about ourselves than we ever would have if we weren’t forced to venture outside of our comfort zones.

Our Small Business

As a business, we’ve embraced change like never before. It took 6 months to build this website from the ground up and we now offer our range of adjustable beds, riser recliners, profiling beds and specialist seating to people and businesses throughout mainland Britain.

In many ways, HWB Mobility feels like a new business but it’s far from it. Established in 2010 we’ve already celebrated our 10th anniversary albeit in a  fairly subdued way.

Trying to establish ourselves in such a crowded market online though isn’t without its challenges as anyone that has trodden this path before will testify to.

Being a small business has its advantages.

We aren’t rigid in our approach and we go above and beyond to exceed the expectations of our clients each and every time.

We never take it for granted that people will choose us over our competitors and we appreciate every single order that we’ve received.

We probably won’t appear on page one of Google when your search for electric adjustable beds for sale, we only went live in December 2020 so we rely much more on word of mouth and people finding us via our social media channels.

It’s very much a marathon rather than a sprint and there are no such things as quick wins in business despite what the various marketing experts will have you believe.

We’re in it for the long haul though and our aim is to become your go-to destination for all your high quality, British made Mobility Furniture at the nation’s lowest prices.

You’re probably here because you followed a link on social media. Feel free to let us know in the comment of that post your thoughts on anything in this blog post.

If you have any suggestions of topics for future blog posts, please let us know those too.

Thanks for reading, take care and stay safe.
