We’re talking with Andrew from HWB Mobility because we’ve been finding out all about riser recliner chairs and they are absolute experts in this field.
I’ve got great memories of my grandparents when I was younger with what I thought to be these magical chairs where the legs went up and the back went down. And the more I’ve been working with ElWell, I really understand how important they are for older adults in terms of helping them get up safely, improving their comfort when seated, distributing pressure correctly. So I thought it was really important for us to write this article on riser recliners and give people a good overview so that they know what they can access when looking for one.
Q: So Andrew, what can you tell me about HWB Mobility?
A: HWB Mobility was set up in 2010 initially to visit clients in their own homes and discuss their mobility needs – not just riser recliners but adjustable beds, specialist seating, profiling beds. Since the pandemic we’ve changed our way of working quite considerably. We’ve moved online, the last 12 months we’ve been developing our website and offering the same products as in person to the whole of mainland Britain. Our aim is to be the lowest priced provider of our products.
Q: These chairs are quite an investment and it can be hard if you don’t know what to look for. So what’s the process for someone coming to your site and buying a riser recliner chair?
A: The market can seem quite confusing when it comes to buying a rise and recline chair. There’s so many options, you need to get everything right first time as it is an expensive investment. Our website is very user friendly – we explain the different sizes we offer, with the different mechanisms we give a detailed description of what could potentially work for one and not the other and each of the benefits. There’s a clearly visible size chart giving exact measurements in inches for seat height, width, and everything else you can think of really so you know you’re getting the correct chair for the person who’ll be using it.
Q: Our article is based on the insight you can give me, and you have a wealth of knowledge and info. You can really tell you put your clients first and want them to get the best chair at the lowest price which is amazing.
A: We look at the competitors whenwe first set up the website. There’s lots of suppliers but they’re offering quite limited choice in regards to size and mechanism, and we wanted to cater for everybody. We’re all very different in our make-up so we cover the whole range.
Q: What else do you offer apart from riser recliners?
A: A vast range of adjustable beds and specialist seating, and our ethos again is to be the lowest priced provider. Having said that, we make a conscious effort to only work with British based manufacturers, purely from a communication aspect and delivery time-scale. We wanted lead times to be as short as possible but also have the reputable companies to work with who are registered with the relevant trade bodies in the industry.
Q: What would the average delivery time be for a chair?
A: Everything we offer is tailor made to order for the individual. When we receive an order on the website, we submit it to the manufacturer and they start to make it. Depending on their backlog, it takes on average between 4-6 weeks – as a general rule of thumb.
Q: What’s the difference between coming to you guys vs going to a more generic company that offers riser recliner chairs?
A: Our offering is wider than anyone else’s – not just with mechanisms and sizes but also accessories – you can add reading lamps, USB ports to plug your phone in and have by your side. There’s also a wide fabric choice offering although we do say if they see something they like and it’s not on the website, get in touch and see if that’s possible.
I’ve been working in the industry for 16 years, so can really help people when it comes to making the right decision.
